Near Kongens Nytorv we find Nyhavn, an idyllic area, which oozes charm and Danish ‘hygge’. In the harbour the old, wooden sailboats are rocking gently to a song of days gone by alongside the old houses that have all been respectfully restored.
The houses were all built during the reign of King Christian IV in the 17 th century, and today they stand as monuments to the greatest entrepreneur in the history of Copenhagen.
A stroll down the cobblestones of the old quay, in one of the aged, beautiful houses you find Cap Horn. In the days of legendary seafarers, rounding Cape Horn was a very unique experience and it is our wish that you will have that very same feeling when you have ‘rounded’ our Cap Horn.
The old house in which we are situated, is the former Løvens Hotel (The Lion’s Hotel) that later became Hotel Kronprinsen (The Crown Prince Hotel) and it used to be a hangout for some of the area’s notorious women of easy virtue. In those days the smell of tar, new rope and fish mixed with the sound of horses’ hoofs on the cobblestones and the shouting and clinking of
glasses echoed in the street.
Today some of this atmosphere is still there, however with less inventory being thrown about these days!
CAP HORN is one of the few places that have been so fortunate as to retain its original expression. The old walls, wooden floors, open fireplace, diverse chairs and plates and the curious knick-knacks here
and there, contribute to the different, relaxed and homely atmosphere that we appreciate. This is also the feeling we want our guests to enjoy when visiting.
Every day the chefs prepare homemade food from scratch. The menu is in accordance with the seasons and the daily supply of fresh, first-rate products from the markets. We use a number of organic raw materials, for example organic shell eggs, wheat flour and milk. Our vegetables and meat are organic to the extent that they live up to our standards of quality of the day. Our coffee and tea as well as selections from our beer and wine assortment also come from organic makers.
The coffee is brewed on an original French Melior coffeemaker, where the boiling water is poured over the beans and the aromatic scent rises as it is pressed down.
The coffee is a special blend, roast and grind made to fit this coffeemaker and to secure the best result.
On the first floor you will find a charming old apartment with sloping, wooden floors, barred windows and French doors.
These rooms are often used to hold festive gatherings.
In front of the picturesque Cap Horn house we find our wonderful terrace, where the view of the old wooden
ships can be enjoyed, while savouring a delightful meal composed by our highly skilled Chef.
You are always welcome, whether you want to enjoy a cup of our organic coffee, a glass of organic red wine, a main course made from fresh, organic materials or a full menu after a long and tiring day.
We hope you will enjoy your meal and your experience!
